DIY Luggage Tag and the 2011 Color of the Year

by Christine · 16 Comments

Hey friends!

Hope you had a fab weekend!

I made these sweet luggage tags with A Dub today.

Not only that, it was sunny outside.  I know…right…crazy.

We used the 2011 color of the year.  Because…let’s be honest, we must have chic and trendy luggage tags.

First go get the graphic .

It’s from Graphics Fairy…who I love:)

Then wave your magic wand in a computer program of your choice.

Easiest way:

Open a Word Doc

Insert the picture that you have already saved to your desktop.

Right-click on the picture and choose format.

In the layout section, choose behind text.

Now go back and click inside the image and the cursor should be there.

Type your letter.

The font I used was Trajan Pro.

Get it here.

I also added an address and phone number on the back.

I won’t show you all that, well, for obvious privacy reasons. :)

But here is a snatch of it below.

The font I used for the address was FontleroyBrown.

Which you can download here.

Then we took to Kinko’s to be laminated. Cost about $2

Here are my laminating thoughts:

You can buy 3m pouches at some stores that will work if no place around you does laminating.

There are different thicknesses, the thicker the better.

I love  L.O.V.E the UPS store.  They have never done me wrong. Great laminating, no bubbles, and they will round the corners for you.

Unfortunately, they were closed today.

So you aren’t seeing their fine work here. :(

Oh well.

Here are the eyelets I used in the two above pictures.

There are instructions, but you want to put the base down, then the long silver part then the peice UPSIDE DOWN, then the short silver part then the hammer tool.

Then hammer it in a few times.

Works like a charm.

Now here is our color of the year ribbon.

Honeysuckle…or as close as we could get to it.

I love it.

Make some for your friends.

They will love it.

Now…can I put it on my luggage and head for fun in the sun?

Just to let you know. I used to be a travel gent and we always advised our clients to never put their address on their luggage tags. Workers at the airport might not be honest, and know you are away. We told them to put our agency’s address on it. Lovely luggage tag tho.

What a lovely idea and I appreciate your explaining the printing process. I have a hard time understanding some steps but yours seems easier to follow. I’m going to go practice. Thanks.
