Some people really need to write.
It’s their heartbeat. Creative process. Salvation of sorts.
I’m not one of those people. At least I don’t think I am.
I totally get all the reasons I, as a business owner, should have a blog.
Not only do I understand them, I PREACH them to every other business owner out there, touting their effectiveness for search engine rankings and content sharing. But when faced with a pile of work and an every-shortening stint at the computer, writing a new post doesn’t “free” me, it gives me anxiety.
It’s that jittery feeling I talk to my illustrator (who actually does write) about, when you have 18 million things to do and no more than 10 minutes to accomplish them. all.
What I need is not creative freedom in a blog post. What I need is a nap.
Or a lot more coffee.
But if all these things about blogs and marketing are true. And I think they are. Then I have to find some sort of brain space where I can publish original content.
It would be a bonus if I could enjoy this process.
I have found that I don’t hate all writing. I enjoyed these recent posts {here and here and here} sharing my story about adoption, my faith and encouraging others.

I think the non-writer makes their way by identifying their gift. A special personality trait.
Some way they communicate, or live and breathe that isn’t the status quo.
Something that ignites passion in others.
Something that serves others.
Something that makes you a friend.

I have found that although I don’t love writing, I do love encouraging and investing.
Even in the midst of my “give it to you straight” personality.
I love to share struggles. successes. wisdom (all 30ish years of it!). In a way that helps others along their own road.
I love to talk things through. Overthink them. Help with solutions. Pray. Encourage.
I have found this true as I have grown in my walk with Christ, entrepreneurship, marriage, even grieving my Dad’s passing.
And I realize that the posts I have enjoyed writing and have been most proud of, are the ones that encourage.
It’s like some giant, super obvious thing that I never discovered.
So here’s my encouragement to you today.
Find what sparks your energy. Find your heartbeat and write it out in the context of your business.
Is it teaching others? creating community? humor? encouragement?
Find it. Get after it. It’s worth the process, because readers recognize it.
It’s what you bring to the table, and it has value in your business.

Great post!
I’ve been thinking a lot about this too lately… I’m finding such anxiety in posting any kind of blog post and that’s been keeping me from doing it period. I needed the reminder of posting thinsgs that use my own energy spark! :)

I’m so glad Jacinda! Go get after it:)
