Remember all those times you opened facebook, gearing up to land a few leads, comment and like posts from your business account, and schedule a few mind-blowing updates?
Wait, there’s a food truck round-up next week? {check…going}
Oh look, Suz had her baby. THOSE DIMPLES. stop. {heart eye emoji}
Another funny cat video? {watching that now!}
And then it’s been like 43 minutes and you’ve done zilch in the way of actual work. So you slop up a few barely interesting content links to your biz page and shut the computer, determined to do the *actual* money-making work for a bit.
I’m a freak content consumer. I bet you are too.
There’s just so much to read and learn and watch and love. I feel a bit like cookie monster, just trying to shove in all the cookies while they fall out all over the floor.
I don’t think we are the only ones out there drowning in content consumption.
Did you know that something like 80% of the pins on pinterest are re-pins? So only 20% are fresh new content?
WHAT?!?!?
This has to stop! You and me? We are better than this!
I decided to give myself a little challenge:
Spend 30 minutes a day creating in place of consuming. Whether instagram photos, blog posts, status updates, or my yummy new online class; I would create for my business for 30 minutes each day.
MIND BLOWN. Not only did I get a crap-ton of content done, I gleaned a few unexpected things about myself.
When I consume content 100% of the time, I have a hard time finding my own voice.
It’s like the tiny ballerina who never makes eyes at the crowd because she’s peering over her shoulder to get the movements right. She’s lost. I’m lost.
When I create content I zero in on my business goals + dreams.
I’m discovering where I shine. Passionate topics and inspired posts that just roll off the fingers. I didn’t see this one coming at all.
When I create content, I gain momentum and self esteem.
There’s a glimmer of “practice makes perfect” fairy dust at work here. Producing consistently brings helpful feedback and increased self-esteem. I even dipped my toe into a few new treats, like Instagram stories…and {gasp} actually sort of enjoyed creating them!
When I create content, I boost my business reach.
It also brings more consistent engagement, because that’s how social media works, Hun. More original content that keeps getting better, gets liked and shared more, and gets more clients more. more. more.
Crazy right?!?!
In the end:
This little breaky from my normal consumption blew me away. I think I’ll keep it!
I sorta think you should too!
Take 30 minutes of your life back! Create something new and watch yourself {and your business} burst into bloom!

Hey Liz, I think so!! Photographing and writing new content about your new biz will help build a stock pile of goodies to share when you start promoting your offerings!
